OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, March 25, 2009 · 10 Greenspace threatened Continued from page 6 spring fever groups learn about the issue when too late, resulting in missed opportunities to realize satisfactory community solutions. School boards must consult with communities, prior to decision-making, about changes that impact the entire community. Although schools are on "private property," shouldn't taxpayers in our community have a say in trees losses, and losses of neighbourhood parkland and outdoor recreational space? Southeast Oakville will be the next community threatened. With a review underway about the fate of six local schools, their community will, undoubtedly, be faced with school closure, construction and the board will again attempt to justify loss of more trees and cherished greenspace. Ultimately, school boards and municipalities must work effectively together to realize successful community solutions that are more socially acceptable in this age of heightened awareness of the importance of healthy students and environmental stewardship. In the meantime, our children lose out, so do our communities and so does our planet. Contact your Town councillors and the HDSB trustees. Plant a tree today, but not on school board property if you want it to endure. KAREN BRAILSFORD-BROCK DENTURES tarting at S 379 905-815-8208 $ LIMITED TIME OFFER
