OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, March 27, 2009 · 8 . Phoenix Program - Early Psychosis Intervention The word "psychosis" is used to describe a condition of the brain where there is a loss of contact with reality making it difficult to distinguish between what is real and what is not. Symptoms can include confused behaviour, seeing or hearing things that others do not see/hear, and strangely held beliefs which are unusual and unjustified. The Phoenix Program is an outpatient, community based program for people experiencing early stages of psychosis who reside in Halton Region. The clinical team works in a partnership with the client and their families to identify concerns and goals and to develop plans that work on recovering from psychosis. Services include rapid psychiatric assessment and treatment based on individual concerns/goals including education about psychosis, medication, counselling (including addictions counselling) and recovery support. It may also include assistance with work, school, social and leisure activities and specialized support to family members and friends. Local Pharmacist-Owners in every community across the country have chosen to support health causes that are important to their local communities. This year 120 local charities have been chosen. The Oakville Hospital Foundation is honoured once again to have Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) included on this list. This demonstrates that store owners in Oakville have chosen to donate to the health of our community. More than $9,700 was donated to OTMH from the 2008 Tree of Life Campaign.
