UNDEFEATED TOURNAMENT: The Oakville Vytis midget girls' #2 rep team won the championship at the recent Markham/Unionville tournament. Novice Wings fly high in Georgina Giving up the first three goals in their opening game of the recent Georgina Tournament was not a harbinger of things to come for the Oakville novice white Wings. After allowing the three goals, Oakville went on to outscore its opponents 16-3 the rest of the way en route to a 3-0-1 record and the tournament championship. David Swanick recorded a hat trick and Luke Distefano provided strong goaltending in the Wings' 4-1 victory over Newmarket in the final. Reese Sanders also had a hat trick for Oakville during the tournament, scoring three in a 9-3 win over Glanbrook in the Wings' first game. Oakville's other games included a 1-0 win over Bradford, where Distefano earned the shutout, and a 2-2 tie versus Georgina. Other members of the team are Matthew Curtis, Miles Renwick, Nicholas Bugden, Dylan Whittaker, Sergio Mancini, Jeremy Swales, Noah Levine, Avery Millar-Maclean, Nathan Jager, Randy Shao, Alex Near, Ben Ecclestone and Matthew O'Neill. Coaches are Phil Jager, Mike Swanick and Craig Ecclestone. Vytis midgets champs in Markham The Oakville Vytis midget girls' #2 rep team went undefeated at the recent Markham/Unionville tournament, winning the title. Oakville edged the host MUMBA squad 38-37 in the final, the Vytis's third back-to-back game of the day. Oakville beat the Ancaster Magic three times at the tournament, prevailing by scores of 39-25, 3829 and 47-22. The Vytis also dismantled the Tillsonburg Gemini, 45-21. Members of the team are Nina Dabic, Rebecca Flynn, Maria Grubisic, Christina Heytens, Natalie Hirano, Beka McRae, Neha Sharma, Claire Steckle, Jenny Sutton and Kaitlin Walsh.
