While the recession caused some projects to be deferred it also caused others to be accelerated thanks to economic stimulus funding from the provincial and the federal governments. As qualifying for this funding means projects have to be `shovel ready,' the Town voted to spend $5.6 million to get certain projects to the point where they would qualify. This includes $3.6 million for the design and development of the QEP Centre, $260,000 for transit facility expansion, $1.2 million for the Kerr Street widening and grade separation and for the Westwood Park landscape redevelopment.
