Vol. 52 No. 49 "USING COMMUNICATION TO BUILD BETTER COMMUNITIES" Brampton man accused of sex with young girl Two allegedly met via online dating service A Brampton man faces several charges in relation to an alleged sexual assault against a Halton teenager. The Halton Regional Police Service Child and Sexual Assault (CASA) Bureau said the victim is a 13-year-old female, but won't give any more details about her at the request of her family. Police allege the two had sex over a period of time after they made contact last October through an online dating service. Mike Chaddock, 57, was charged by Halton police Wednesday. Chaddock is charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching. He is to appear in a Milton court on June 1. Chaddock, a former Peel police officer who retired as a sergeant after 30 years, was feted in 1999 with a police humanitarian award for community work that included leadership roles with animal welfare agencies. Currently the executive assistant to BramptonSpringdale MPP Linda Jeffrey, Chaddock is also well known for his work organizing Brampton's annual Santa Claus parade. In a conversation with the Toronto Star last night, Chaddock said the charges will be "vigorously defended by my legal counsel and I anticipate that I will exonerated." -- With files from Torstar News Service Green offer Big plans for Bronte Village Mall The Bronte BIA and the owners of the Bronte Village Mall are inviting residents to a special Thursday unveiling where they will get a sneak peak at the proposed shape the mall may take in the future. The unveiling will take place at an informal wine and cheese reception at 6 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, 79 Jones St. The proposed design includes a mixed balance of affordable residential housing and condo suites as well as professional office space and mixed retail. The multi-million dollar development concept is being brought forth by the current owners of the mall. Built at the corner of Bronte and Lakeshore Roads, the structure would feature a boutique hotel with a rooftop dining area and observation terrace. A park with a water feature is also planned, possibly for use as a skating rink in the winter. Other space will be reserved for cultural and performance uses, a pharmacy and an expanded Sobey's grocery store. The planners note that most of the surface parking would be removed from the street with much of it being placed underground. The design concept was submitted to the Town's planning department based on input from a focus LIESA KORTMANN / OAKVILLE BEAVER EARTH DAY CELEBRATION: Danielle Goddard of the Downtown Oakville BIA (Business Improvement Area) was handing out free tree seedlings as part of the organization's Earth Day Party in the Towne Square.
