OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, May 15, 2009 · 18 Double gold for Brookdale robotics team Brookdale Public School's two robotics teams are taking a bow after winning double gold medals at the 20th Annual Ontario Skills Competition, held in Waterloo earlier this month. The school's junior team, consisting of four Grade 6 students, got their medal for building an autonomous Lego robot that was capable of moving around a four-foot by eight-foot area, locating several objects and removing them from the playing field. The school's intermediate team, consisting of four Grade 7 and 8 students, achieved a victory for creating a Lego robot capable of besting three imposing challenges. One challenge required the robot to move across a surface, recognize a random number of black dots and then report the number it had encountered. Another test required the robot to negotiate a maze while carrying an object, while the last challenge had the robot locate, lift and stack three items.
