Notre Dame downed the Red Devils 2-0, OT's first loss of the season. Devils' rebuild ahead of schedule By Herb Garbutt OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Member Organizations required for Halton District School Board's Special Education Advisory Committee The Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) seeks local organizations for membership. Under Ontario's Education Act, every school board must have a Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) that advises the board on specific information, advice and assistance to parents/guardians whose children may require additional support. The committee makes recommendations to the Board concerning the establishment and development of special education programs and services. Currently, the Halton District School Board's Special Education Advisory Committee is seeking additional local organizations to become members of the committee. The association or organization of parents must operate locally within the jurisdiction of the board, and be affiliated with a provincial association/organization dedicated to the well-being or interests of exceptional children. The organization must meet all other requirements as outlined in Regulation 464/97 for membership to SEAC. Organizations interested in participating on SEAC for the Halton District School Board are asked to submit a letter explaining their interest to: When Oakville Trafalgar last reached the Halton high school senior girls' soccer final in 2007, it graduated nine starters. That triggered a rebuild that is now paying off as the Red Devils opened the season with three straight wins. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish, winners of the last six Halton titles, ended that run with a 2-0 victory Tuesday, but OT hopes to get another shot at its Burlington rivals before the season is over. There are only three Grade 12 players on this year's team, so OT's team will be virtually unchanged for next season. But that doesn't mean the Devils are going to wait. OT opened the season with a 1-0 win over last year's finalists, Holy Trinity. It followed that up with a 3-1 victory over M.M. Robinson, which last week handed Notre Dame its only loss of the season. "We turned over 12 girls from last year, but they're very coachable and they work very hard," said coach Jeff Gruber. OT's strength is its defensive play, anchored by captain Lindsay Hudson, centre-midfielder Sarah Wojcik and sweeper Erica Pearson. So far, the Devils have allowed just three goals in four games. "I've always coached from the back out," said Gruber. "We've got good defenders so we'll defend first and attack after." The Devils are relatively young up front, but Sierra Pearson gives the team some scoring punch. Although OT has scored just six times, it knows it needs just one more than the other team. If the Devils can do that, they may return to the Halton final ahead of schedule. "Right now, that's the goal," Gruber said, "but, as we know, anything can happen." OT will host the Halton Cup, a 16-team tournament, tomorrow (Saturday) at Shell Park. The Red Devils play their first game at 9 a.m., with the final set for 4 p.m. In addition to many of their Halton rivals, the tournament will include teams from Windsor, Niagara Falls, Mississauga and Waterdown.
