Dolphins boast specialists, medalists at Sudbury swim meet The Oakville Dolphins Swim Club won six of eight age group high-point categories and more than 100 medals overall at the Eastside Marios Invitational recently at Laurentian University in Sudbury. Dolphins' individual high-point winners included Panos Papangelakis (10 and under boys), Meryn McCann (10 and under girls), Olivia Sbaraglia (11 and 12 girls), Conor Russell (11 and 12 boys), Lauren Dixon (13 and 14 girls) and Sinead Russell (15 and over girls). Nine Dolphins won special categories, as William Dixon, Lauren Dixon, Sinead Russell, McCann, Papangelakis and Sbaraglia were declared sprint specialists while Bronwyn Evans, Marina Biasutto and Kurt Schubert were named distance specialists. Sinead Russell won an intense 800-metre eliminator series in which eight swimmers competed in a broken 800m swim. The swimmers began with a 200m freestyle swim where the last-place finisher was eliminated, and continued with a series of six 100m freestyle swims until a champion was decided. Only 30 seconds of rest was permitted between each swim. Other Dolphins to win gold medals included George Papangelakis, Shannon Russell, Maggie Burns and Christina Tanninen. Sullivan Ahlborn, Erin Wilson, Jonathan Koren, Jacquie Baillie, Courtney Gregorian, Meaghan McCann and Larissa Ruiz each won silver medals.
