9 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, May 22, 2009 Both public school board student trustees from Oakville The Halton District School Board has announced that Laura McVey from Abbey Park High School and Chaitanya Dogra from Iroquois Ridge High School will be the student trustees for 2009-10. The two high school students were chosen from five candidates who submitted their names for the one-year term. Members of the HDSB Student Senate, representative of all public secondary schools within Halton, interviewed the candidates late in April, and elected McVey and Dogra to the role. McVey is currently a student trustee with the HDSB. She and Nupur Dogra are completing their one-year term as student trustees in June. "We have had an exciting year which has provided us with incredible learning experiences, leadership opportunities and professional development," said Dogra. "We both believe we have accomplished many of the goals set out at the beginning of our term. Our involvement and voice at the board table, representation at the Ontario Student Trustee Association and working as leaders of the Student Senate are just a few of the year's highlights." McVey said she is happy to return to the board table in the fall. "We truly appreciate the trust, respect and value the board of trustees and board staff have shown us during our term as student trustees," said McVey. "I'm excited to be returning for a second year as student trustee and look forward to continuing the leadership opportunities and professional development." Bruce Jones, chair of the HDSB, said he expects valued input from the board's student trustees.
