The purpose is to draw attention to the benefits of recreation to individuals, families, neighbourhoods and communities. The theme, Live it Everyday, encourages people to participate in Recreation and Parks programs, services and facilities -- every day. "Physical activity should be a part of everybody's day, every day. We are trying to create awareness on how people can build activity into their day," said Frank Prospero, co-chair of Active Halton. Leading experts agree participation in recreation activities can provide positive benefits related to psychological health, physical health, familial interaction, peer influence, academic per- formance, community development and lifestyle behaviours. JRPM calendars list local activities throughout June. The calendars can be found online at www.oakville.ca. Community groups such as Active Halton play an important role in promoting active living. Active Halton has an ambitious plan to increase physical activity of Halton residents 20 per cent by 2012.
