So much grass needs to be cut, Town staff pointed out, that if the Town chose to do the trimming itself for the whole season, the cost would be around $36,500. "It should be noted, however, that no funds have been allocated for the 2009 grass cutting season for this increased level of service," said Chris Mark, director of parks and open space, in a report to the committee. "Furthermore, given the date of the response from the Region it may be difficult to revise contracts to initiate this work in 2009." Mark also noted in the report that the Town paying for the more frequent grass cutting of the Regional boulevards itself might be precedent setting, with an expectation arising that the Town enhance other Region service level standards at its own expense. In the end council voted to send a formal request to Regional Council calling for the Region to enhance the level of service for grass cutting on Oakville Regional Roads at the Region's cost. Council also voted to instruct staff to look into the possibility of finding $27,000 in this year's budget so the Town can pay for three additional cuts along regional roads if the Region refuses to pay for the service itself.
