33 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, June 5, 2009 Event singles out leukemia Oakville-based dating service Single in the City is hosting a special fundraiser and party for local singles Saturday, June 6. All proceeds from the event, to be held at the Oakville Holiday Inn at 590 Argus Rd., will be going to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. "In March 2002, my sister, after going for a routine blood test, was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML)," said Laura Bilotta, who operates Single in the City in Oakville. Sabrina (nee Bilotta) Jackson was referred to McMaster University Medical Centre, where they moved very quickly to try and help her. She was told her only option was a bone marrow transplant. "Thank God our youngest brother (Joe Bilotta who also lives in Oakville) was a match. She had her transplant three months later. Her diagnosis came just as I was starting Single in the City," said Laura.
