13 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, June 10, 2009 Raitt quiet on scuffle Continued from page 12 had been out west at that time. In the recording, Raitt criticizes the office of the Minister of Health, Leona Aglukkaq, for not wanting to contribute a quote to a joint release on the isotope crisis, says the Chronicle Herald. "They're terrified of the issues," the paper reported Raitt as saying. "You know what? Good. Because when we win on this, we get all the credit. I'm ready to roll the dice on this. This is an easy one. You know what solves the problem? Money." Halton's Green Party federal candidate Amy Collard, the party's natural resources critic, said Raitt's comments would be "distasteful" to Canadians with cancer. "This isn't about money, this is about lives," she said. The past week hasn't been easy politically for Raitt. Along with the released recording, Toronto NDP MP Olivia Chow announced Monday she has asked Canada's auditor general to conduct an audit of the management and governance of the Toronto Port Authority. Before being elected to serve Halton in October, Raitt had been CEO of the authority. The Ottawa Citizen reported in April Raitt had expensed $51,000 on travel and $28,000 on hospitality in 2007 and 2008. The authority responded in a statement the expenses were normal. Last week, Opposition members called for Raitt's resignation after a binder that included documents marked secret was left behind at the Ottawa bureau of CTV two weeks ago. MacDonnell, the 26-year-old press secretary for Raitt, resigned over the indiscretion. Raitt was to have been in Milton Saturday however, Burlington MP Mike Wallace attended in her stead.
