25 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, June 12, 2009 Challenge promotes staying active A game of tag, running through the sprinkler, or playing soccer are all activities that Oakville children can earn rewards for through the Make Your Move Junior Summer Active Challenge. The challenge is part of June's Recreation and Parks Month hosted by the Town of Oakville Recreation and Culture Department. "Get out, get active and have some fun this summer," said Nina deVaal, Director of Culture and Recreation, Town of Oakville. "This challenge is an excellent opportunity for children and their families to stay active during the summer by making daily physical activity an important and rewarding experience." The Junior Summer Active Challenge is free and open to all Oakville children four to 13 years of age. It encourages them to increase their levels of physical activity during the summer holidays by trying a wide variety of activities -- from walking the dog, to cycling around the neighbourhood, to a game of hide and seek, all physical activity counts. The goal is to complete 60 activities this summer. For every 20 activities completed, the Town of Oakville Recreation and Culture Department will reward participants with a free swimming/skate pass to any Town pool or arena. Completing all 60 activities earns children a chance to win other great prizes. The Junior Summer Active Challenge runs from June 1-Sept.1. To participate, children can register online at www.oakville.ca/makeyourmove.htm or pick up an activity log at one of the Town's community centres.
