Noxious fumes at dog guide school A floor refinishing agent is being blamed for putting one woman in hospital and making nine other people severely ill at the Lion's Dog Guide Training Facility, at 152 Wilson St., Saturday morning. Police were called to the facility when 10 people working on the third floor suddenly began to exhibit respiration and stomach issues after breathing in a noxious fume. The building was evacuated at which point a 46-year-old woman from Alberta was transported to hospital by ambulance where she is in stable condition and is being medically assessed. The nine other people were assessed at the scene by Halton EMS and were either transported to hospital by ambulance or went in their own vehicle as a precautionary measure. Subsequent investigation revealed a private contractor had been refinishing hardwood flooring on the second floor when the fumes from the refinishing product were dispersed throughout the ventilation system. Members of the Oakville Fire Department have since cleared the fumes, conducted air quality tests and have declared it safe for the occupants to return to the building. No charges are expected to be filed in connection with this incident, noted Sgt. Brian Carr, Halton police public affairs officer. PRESENTS LIVE! IN CONCERT! THIS WEEKEND! THIS WEEKEND!
