Shining the spotlight on May Court The May Court Club of Oakville's new president, Cathy Doucher, aims to put the club in the public's eye this year. Doucher began by registering Team May Court at the June 5 Relay for Life -- it collected more than $3,000 in pledges in 10 days. "We want the Oakville community to know May Court, to support us and be proud of this local philanthropic organization," said Doucher. Over the past three years, the club has raised and distributed more than $500,000 in the community and its members volunteer at the club's consignment shop, The Nearly New Shop on Kerr Street. The club provides volunteers and funding to Wellspring to support people with cancer, S.E.N.A.C.A. for seniors, Home Suite Hope for homeless people, Carey House for physically-challenged adults and the Miriam Group for families affected by HIV/AIDS. Its Puppet Group will continue its anti-bullying message to elementary students and its Lunch Box Program provides nutritional snacks to 42 schools in Oakville and Burlington while its Scholarship Program gives financial aid to Oakville students based on need, grades and community service. The club's contributions to the community have also been enhanced by its official sponsor, Mercedes Benz Oakville Autohaus. For more information, visit www.maycourt.ca.
