The Buzz had a chance to eliminate the two-time defending Canadian champion Rebels from the Ontario Lacrosse Association junior B playoffs last night when the teams met in Ohsweken for the fifth and deciding game of their first-round series. That game began after the Beaver's press deadline (see Thursday's Beaver for the result from that contest). The fact that Oakville, which lost all three regular-season meetings with Six Nations, was in position for the upset is impressive enough. But a bigger positive might be the emergence of rookie goaltender Davide Diruscio, who is a big reason the Buzz extended the Rebels the distance. Diruscio was the star of the show Sunday at Glen Abbey Recreation Centre, backstopping the Buzz to a 42 victory in Game 4. It was the second time in the series the 17-year-old had limited the high-scoring Rebels to two goals. "Positive thinking," Diruscio said when asked how he has performed so well in his first playoff series. "You just have to stay in the right frame of mind." He managed to do so Sunday, even after allowing a soft goal in the first period that opened the scoring. The T.A. Blakelock student made the initial save on a long shot by the Rebels' Kraig Maracle, but he had difficulty corralling the rebound and the ball slowly trickled between his legs and across the goal line. "I am a rookie," Diruscio said. "(It) happens. It's like water off your back. See Kruse page 26 Play Soccer throughout the Fall and Winter Play Indoors at the Pine Glen Soccer Centre!
