The incident began when a 22-year veteran of the Halton Regional Police Service ran the licence plate of a 2002 Jaguar X-Type spotted in the area of Maurice Drive and Rebecca Street. When the search revealed an invalid licence, the officer pulled the car over for a traffic check. According to police, the officer allegedly smelled and spotted remnants of marijuana in the front seat of the Jaguar. The driver was arrested and police say a subsequent search of the car uncovered an additional 9.5 pounds of packaged marijuana in the trunk. As a result of this seizure, members of the Halton Police Drug and Morality Bureau executed a search warrant at a Bennington Gate residence. Police arrested a 20-year-old male, whom they allege was leaving the residence with 10 grams of marijuana. Police allege a search of the house discovered a safe containing another 1.25 pounds of marijuana along with approximately $10,000 in cash. The estimated value of the drugs seized in this operation is around $20,000. The Jaguar, valued at $11,000, was also seized as offence-related property.
