26 Artscene for his hits Life Is a Highway, Boy Inside The Man and Big League, will take the stage with his band Red Rider. Cochrane has taken home seven Juno Awards and is also a member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. "Tom is a heck of golfer and he lives in Oakville, so he was willing to come back," Paul said. "Tom was huge here last year." The concert series wraps up the night of Saturday, July 25 with Bachman Cummings. Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings were two members of The Guess Who, who cemented their name in music history with the 1970 hit American Woman. "I think this will be the big concert," said Paul. "I've listened to them post-Guess Who days and they are fabulous. I think they are going to be a great addition and will get people out and dancing." The concerts will start following the last putt. Paul said he estimates the Thursday and Friday night concerts will start around 6:30 p.m. and on Saturday at about 6:15 p.m. Food and beverages will be available and shuttle buses will run until 10 p.m. The performances will be held on a stage in the same location as last year, which is at the main spectator entrance behind what is now the seventh green (formerly the third green). Admission to the concerts is free with an Open ticket for that date. Tickets to the Open cost $55 per day, with a weeklong pass priced at $110. Paul said he expects even larger crowds at this year's concerts. "It is a heck of a value," he said. "For a $55 ticket, you get to watch the top pros in the world play golf right here on one of the greatest spectator golf courses in the world and you can watch a concert at night with some great names. It's the best deal in town." That's tournament director Bill Paul's philosophy behind the Pengrowth Concert Series at the 19th Hole. The concert series was created last year as a value-added feature of the major golfing event. It was a hit with spectators, with between 4,500 to 5,000 sticking around after the last putt dropped Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights to listen to big name bands. "We received an overwhelming number of comments from spectators about the concerts," said Paul. "Despite the poor weather last year and the fact that play ran late and nothing started on time, that all those people stuck around and enjoyed the concerts was wonderful for us. The attendance at the concerts exceeded our expectations." This year's lineup is sure to please, according to Paul. Kevin Costner and Modern West will play Thursday, July 23. Yes, this is the same Kevin Costner who starred in movies like Field of Dreams, Dances With Wolves and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. He recently made the transition to lead singer and guitarist of a rock/country group he formed called Modern West. The band released its debut album, Untold Truths, in November 2008. Paul said he expects Costner fans, especially women, will flock to see the Hollywood star on stage. "When we were talking about having Kevin Costner play, there was a really good response from people, especially from females," he said. Tom Cochrane is back by popular demand this year on the evening of Friday, July 24.
