Halton Healthcare Services (HHS) is pleased to announce the following new appointments to its 2009/10 HHS Board of Directors Mags Shorey - Chair Mags Shorey has been appointed to the position of Chair of the HHS Board of Directors. Mags joined the HHS Board in 2003 and has served as Vice-Chair for the past two years. She replaces Mary Davies who completed her term in June 2009 and remains on the Board as Past Chair. Mags brings extensive leadership and governance experience to her new role. As a determined and articulate leader, she has already made significant contributions to HHS as an active member of the HHS Strategic Planning Committee, the Governance Committee, and the Capital Planning Advisory Committee. Mags was a member of the Oakville Hospital Foundation Board of Directors where she very successfully co-chaired the Foundation's $10,000,000 "Critical Support" Capital Campaign in 2000 and served as the Chair of that Board from 2007 ­ 2009. Over the years she has been recognized for her extensive community work in Oakville. Don Newell ­ Vice Chair Don Newell has been appointed Vice Chair of the Board. He has been a member of the Halton Healthcare Board since 2001, serving as Treasurer from 2003 to 2007. A Chartered Accountant with over 30 years of public accounting and professional service experience, Don is currently a senior partner with Deloitte & Touche LLP's Assurance and Advisory Services in Toronto. Don has been actively involved with both the Finance and the Governance Committees during his time on the HHS Board. As the current Chair of the Capital Planning Advisory Committee, he has provided a strong business acumen and tremendous leadership of this committee which monitors the progress of and provides advice regarding capital planning of the New Oakville Hospital. He has also held numerous leadership roles in the community over the years. Michael Shepherd ­ New Board Member Michael Shepherd has been appointed to the Board of Directors to replace Kim Mason who stepped down from the Board in June. Born and raised in the Town of Milton, Michael began his career at Deloitte & Touche in small business development. He served on the Board of Directors of Prosperity ONE Credit Union for ten years and is now the President and CEO. Michael brings a wealth of both business and community experience to the HHS Board of Directors having served in numerous leadership roles including his current appointments as a Director of the Milton Chamber of Commerce and the Vice Chair of the Halton Learning Foundation. He was named the Honorary Chair of the MS Society Super Cities Walk in Milton and is currently recognized as one of the top national fundraisers for the MS Society. 2nd Annual Valley View Open On Saturday, June 20th the residents of Valley View, a neighbourhood in Oakville at Dundas and Neyagawa had their 2nd annual Valley View Open golf tournament in support of Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH). This year the Valley View Open raised more than $22,400 for OTMH, surpassing last year's total by more than $5,000. Swim For Mental Health Fundraiser The first annual Swim for Mental Health fundraiser will be hosted by Brookdale Swimming Pool the week of August 10, 2009 with proceeds going towards the purchase of essential equipment for the Mental Health Unit at OTMH and the Mental Health Day Program. Event organizer, Frank Zamuner, has several goals for this event including raising awareness about mental health illnesses and eliminating the stigma attached to them. With help from family, friends and the community of Oakville, Frank will complete his goal of swimming 1,000 lengths of the pool and raising money for the Mental Health Unit at OTMH and the Mental Health Day Program. The Swim for Mental Health fundraiser will take place from Monday, August 10th to Friday, August 14th between the hours of 12:30 ­ 2:00 pm. Frank would like to call upon the community of Oakville to support him anyway that they can, from sponsoring him or making a donation, to cheering him on. Royal Windsor Pub Charity Golf Tournament On Sunday, July 12 the customers of the Royal Windsor Pub, a restaurant in Oakville at Ford Drive and Royal Windsor Drive had their 1st Annual Charity Golf Tournament in support of Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH). This year the Royal Windsor golf tournament raised more than $2,100 for OTMH, a tremendous result for their first year. We would like to thank the ownership group of Bala, Kathees and Ravi and the staff at Royal Windsor for planning and executing a great tournament. We would also like to thank everyone who played in the tournament, the sponsors and prize (Left to Right) Simon, Teresa, Trevor, Kathees, Bala, and donors for making this year such a success. Ravi HHS Aerobic / Gentle Stretching Pool Classes Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital offers an excellent Therapeutic Pool Program for those living with Fibromyalgia, recovering from a hip or knee surgery, or a recent injury.
