Lewis said he's up against 15 very talented youths for the title, but he is optimistic of his chances. "Everyone on the show is pretty talented, but I don't think I would have made it this far if I didn't have at least a shot at winning," he said. He added that he hopes the residents of Oakville will watch the show and vote for him. "I hope people vote for me because they actually enjoy watching me and hearing me sing, but a part of me wants people to vote for me because I love to sing and I want be able to keep doing what I love for them," he said. Win or lose, Lewis said he's determined to be a professional singer down the road. "I know it can be hard to make it big as a singer, but I would for sure take a shot it if I was given the opportunity," he said. Lewis is a lifelong Oakville resident. He graduated from Mother Teresa School in June and is entering Grade 9 at Loyola in September. He said being part of the show has been a great learning experience. "The Next Star has taught me to have faith in myself," he said. "There's tons of kids who you might think `Oh, they're way better than me...', but you really need to believe in yourself first before anyone else will." The show airs Friday nights at 6 p.m. on YTV.
