So far, the Liberal Party of Canada's Green Light Committee has not yet signed off on Zemlak's nomination paperwork. He had previously sought the nomination to be the federal Liberal candidate for the Wellington-Halton Hills riding in 2004, but lost to Bruce Hood. Former Halton MP Garth Turner has not filed nomination papers, said Judi Longfield, the executive director for the Ontario branch of the Liberal Party. In the Halton riding, which encompasses north Oakville and Burlington and Milton, Turner ran as the Liberal candidate in the fall 2008 federal election, but lost to current Halton Conservative MP Lisa Raitt. Longfield said the party hopes to begin nomination contests by the end of August. Riding association president Steve Savage said there is no hurry to settle on a candidate as there is no election on the horizon.
