Ferrone told the Beaver his termination was unexpected. "Given the extensive recruitment process, it is puzzling that such a drastic decision was made after my very short tenure, with no notice or discussion," he said. "It is very difficult for me to believe that the Y would release me from my duties as CEO without first providing me with some feedback or guidance. Despite this unfortunate experience I celebrate all that the Oakville Family Y achieves for the people of Oakville and I am saddened that I will not be part of its continued success. I have no further comment at this time on the advice of my lawyer." Bruce Ireland, who served as CEO of the YMCA for 23 years before Ferrone took over, is temporarily filling the position until September. "The board has asked Bruce Ireland to resume his role as CEO until the board meets in September, at which time the board will decide how it will proceed with finding a successor to Bruce," said Knibutat. "He (Bruce) has done a great job and we're certainly very appreciative of the fact that he's prepared to step back in and help us out until "I think when you make that determination that it's not the right fit, I think the best course of action is to move quickly and move forward. My expectation is that the community will understand that." Kristian Knibutat, chair YMCA of Oakville board we get a new CEO in place." Knibutat said the board was dissatisfied with the situation. "We certainly would have preferred that Dan would have been the right fit for us and he wasn't, so we were disappointed, but we are looking to more forward," said Knibutat. The board chair said the reputation of the YMCA of Oakville in the community likely won't be affected by the turnover in leadership. "As with any organization, we want to make sure that we have a leader going forward for the organization that's the right fit," Knibutat said. "I think when you make that determination that it's not the right fit, I think the best course of action is to move quickly and move forward. My expectation is that the community will understand that." SPECIAL LIMITED TIME OFFER Save on the best seats in the theatre for performances through September 13!
