Dragon boats set to launch The TigerTel Oakville Charity Dragon Boat Festival Ready to cast off for another season of fun in the name of helping local charities. The event will take place on Sunday, Aug. 16 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Kelso Conservation Area in Milton. Paddlers from across the province are preparing for the sixth annual edition of the event. This year's festival, presented by the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar, looks to add to the more than $200,000 raised for local charities. Event past chair John Kubacki said this year's organizing committee hopes to top $300,000 mark this year. "Having some fun with friends and co-workers, getting some exercise and raising money for charity is what this event is all about," said Mike Radford, Rotary president. Money raised from this event is shared between Halton Children's Aid Society, the numerous charities supported by the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar and the charities of choice of participants. The event will add a new race that carries a cash prize -- the top fundraising teams and those with the most spirit as chosen by the committee will be in the new race. "It will be wild, fun and a terrific way to shout out how spirit and hard work can be rewarding," according to Kubacki. The event is open to both competitive experienced Dragon Boaters and any group that just want to get out on the water and have some fun.
