Second arrest in bank robbery Halton police have arrested a second man in connection with a bank robbery that took place in Oakville and led to a vehicle collision in Mississauga. The incident began at 1:23 p.m. on July 23, when two men entered the Scotia Bank at 525 Iroquois Shore Rd. The men indicated to the bank teller that they were armed and were given an undisclosed amount of cash before making their escape in what police say was a stolen car. The plot fell apart when a Halton police cruiser, patrolling nearby, spotted the stolen vehicle and followed it into the Clarkson area. At this point, the suspects realized they were being followed and attempted to make a getaway, crashing into three other vehicles before coming to a stop at the Truscott Drive/Southdown Road plaza. Michael Cowdrey, 29, of Toronto was arrested at the scene of the accident and charged with robbery. The driver of the vehicle, however, was able to elude police. On Aug. 6, police announced Justin Cowdrey, 26, the brother of the first man arrested, has been charged with robbery and several criminal driving offences in connection with the July 23 incident. Halton Police Service is continuing to investigate this incident and anyone with information related to it is asked to contact the Oakville Division of Halton police at 905-825-4747, ext. 2204 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222TIPS (8477). 7 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, August 12, 2009 ELECTRIC FIREPLACE & BARBECUE CLEARANCE in-stock items - some below cost while quantities last hurry in for best selection Summer Clearance Sale BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND EXTENDED KAREN & KIM'S 60-70% OFF "MASONRY & FIREPLACE DESIGN SPECIALISTS" 406 SPEERS RD., OAKVILLE ACROSS FROM RONA LANSING 905-337-2066 w w w. c o b b l e s t o n e m b e r s . c a 1131 Nottinghill Gate (4th Line) Oakville Watch Us Fashions 905-827-2271 TRIBAL ...and more!
