As I read the announcement naming Dan Ferrone as CEO, it seemed to be the perfect fit. A perfect fit because: 1. Dan Ferrone is an absolute Oakville icon. 2. Dan is one of the most community-orientated leaders in our town. 3. Dan has a proven track record of utilizing his celebrity status with the goal of helping others. 4. Dan successfully utilizes his leadership skills and has raised more money for local and regional charities than anyone I know. 5. Dan is a successful entrepreneur. 6. Dan is as well connected as anyone in the local business community. 7. Dan has the unique ability to combine commercial thinking and charity requirements. 8. Dan has unparalleled moral and ethical standards. 9. Dan is very well respected by his business peers, community leaders, and neighbours. Having said this, to then read that Dan has been terminated after only six weeks on the job, I really wonder what the Oakville YMCA is thinking. Is this what the YMCA culture is all about? What has happened to the core values of the YMCA as stated on the website? I find the decision to terminate Mr. Ferrone very disturbing and unprofessional. The organization's handling of this situation is most disappointing and, in my opinion, certainly not the way someone with a history of service to the community should be treated. The board has scarred the reputation of the YMCA of Oakville. In my eyes, Dan Ferrone was the perfect fit. The board should be ashamed of its actions.
