The performing acts include, Alex Ernewein, a 15-year-old jazz pianist from London; Clodagh Earls, a leading soprano from Oakville; Jason Lee, a young pianist that was awarded the top prize at the national Canadian Music Competition; and James Valitchka, a 14-year-old writer and motivational speaker who was the youngest recipient of the Top 20 Under 20 award in 2005. "If I can bring those kinds of people to this community, it makes me feel good," said Pangman, who has already organized following concerts in the late fall, including internationally-renowned musicians Kai Gleusteen and Catherine Ordronneau in December. As for the after-school programs and mentoring, Pangman is hoping that he won't have to delegate what exactly will be offered. He wants to leave that up to the youths. By keeping an open line of communication with the participants, he can allow creativity to more casually flow through. "I'm hoping that the young people will help us create the programs, because it's not my job," he said, matter-of-factly. "It's just wide open. That's what is so magnificent about this program. There are so many ideas out there that I haven't even heard yet from people." Currently, an after-school program with Oakwood Public School is slated to be launched this fall at St. Aidan's Anglican Church that will see mentors working directly with the young people for both a theatre arts program and a choir program. Not completely satisfied with the organization's current name and seeing it as a little verbose, Pangman wants to offer young people the opportunity to see if they can come up with something a little more hip, too. "I see the young people helping us to create that (new name)," he said. "Just like how they may help us create our programs, there's a good possibility someone is going to mention a name and two of us will look at each other and go, `That's it. That's the whole thing, it's a bit of a journey." Festival Quattro's Salute the Youth is starting at 7:30 p.m. on Wed., Aug. 26 at St. Aidan's Anglican Church, 318 Queen Mary Drive, Oakville. Tickets by donation (minimum of $5) are available at L'aterlier Grigorian or Moonshine Café in Oakville.
