OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, September 9, 2009 · 36 Masters men to play for Cup title The Oakville Fine Homes masters men's soccer team will play for an Ontario Cup title Saturday in Vaughan. Oakville will take on the Markham Lightning in the championship game, an 8 p.m. start at the Ontario Soccer Centre. The team qualified for the final by winning the first three rounds of playdowns, including a 4-0 rout of Hamilton FC Republika in the semifinals. Hunter Madeley scored three times and George Sousa added a single for Oakville. In Oakville's other playdown games, the team defeated Sarnia Azzuri 5-2 and Thornhill United 4-1. Ryan Gamble (three), Madeley (two), Cam Walker, Alan Darragh, Peyvand Mossavat and Sousa had the Oakville markers in those victories. Other members of the team, comprised of players with connections to various Burlington Soccer League squads, are Dino Perri, Carmine Issacco, Steve Ottman, Steve Brockband, Lee Davison, Nico Zrno, Chico Rodrigues, Pat Brodie, Dino Lopez, Ray Wark, Lucio Ianiero, Jamie Parkes, Johnny Williams, Ricky Titus, Dana Peoples, Lyndon Hooper, George Kyriakakos and Tony Tavares. Craig Russell, Alan Hughes and Kevin Maven coach the team. UNBEATEN: The Rays won Oakville Little League's junior regular-season and playoff championships, going 22-0-1 on the season. Little League junior Rays finish season undefeated The Oakville Little League junior Rays dominated their house league competition this season, going undefeated to win both the regular-season and playoff championships. The Rays doubled up the Mets 8-4 in the playoff final, concluding the year with a 22-0-1 mark. The team outscored its opposition 279-121 during the season. Members of the Rays were Tim Oh, Tyler Spence, Chris Arnold, James Longlade, Jack Jameson, Brandon Vienneau, Connor Hammond, Connor Zalan, Jesse Taylor, Johnny Danielson, Erec Kingston, Matthew Smith and Kaitlyn Perry. Special Announcement Obituary LAISTER, Douglas Raymond (19222009)- It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas ("Doug") Laister, after a brief illness on September 4, 2009. Loving husband of 64 years to Mary (Coles). Doug will be sorely missed by his children, Leo & Teri (Oakville), Glenn & Laura (St. Catharines), Drew & Alice (Oakville), Mia & Cameron (Burlington), & Mark & Sylvia (Oakville). Doug also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Doug was a graduate of the University of Toronto (Victoria College) and taught as a Teaching Master for many years at Lakeshore Teacher's College. An avid golfer, Doug will be missed and remembered by his many friends from the Burlington Golf & Country Club.
