This is the same type of crime where someone is taking a material that they feel they can translate into quick cash." The total value of the bronze vases stolen from the Oakville cemeteries has been estimated at around $16,000. Halton police are hoping the metal dealer or anyone else the thieves will go to with the bronze vases will call police rather than turn a blind eye and accept stolen property. "There are many ways one can get rid of raw materials like that, but most of these places are legitimate businesses, operating with guidelines and procedures and we're hoping that if one of these businesses see this they will call us with information," said Maher. Police are also asking the public to provide any information they may have about suspicious people or motor vehicles seen at these two cemeteries during the time of the theft. The Halton Regional Police Service continues to investigate this incident and anyone with information related to it is asked to contact the Oakville Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777, ext. 2204 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
