There are no wrong choices for the new art collector. The perfect piece of art is the one that speaks to you. It can make you feel peaceful or invigorate you with its brilliant colours and daring lines. But at the same time, any collector, whether new to the market or experienced, can benefit from the advice of a knowledgeable gallery staff. Since we opened in2Art, we have helped our clients find the right personal balance between decorative art that fits into their living space and fine art that brings a new breath of originality to their home. Our clients have typically taken extraordinary care to lovingly coordinate their draperies, rugs, sofas and comfy chairs. But many feel that their decor fails to reflect their personal passion. Art is the finishing touch, the missing element that integrates it all. A painting can take a traditional room and give it a fresh, unexpected, modern, surprise or add warmth and peace to a modern interior. A well-trained gallery staff can help the collector translate their interest in a particular work or artist into an intelligent purchase of excellent long-term value. Quality galleries often represent emerging artists whose work is priced according to the early stage of their careers. At our gallery, we present the work of a number of local artists with the talent to reach national and international audiences. Whether considering the work of a local artist or an established talent, we encourage our clients to buy a work because they can't take their eyes off it. Like any great passion, a love affair with a painting begins with a spark of attraction and just continues to grow. Here are some things to keep in mind as you venture out to start your collection: Don't buy art to match your decor. Decor changes. Fall in love with the art and you'll always find a place for it. Our eyes are constantly being bombarded with images. If this one stopped you in your tracks there must be a reason. It's better to make a big, bold statement! There is nothing worse than a tiny piece above a grand fireplace. Consider proportion! Know your taste. Think about your style before you walk into a gallery. Are you traditional or contemporary? Or wild and daring? Maybe this is your chance to try out a style you are attracted to without redecorating your entire home. Add a twist to your otherwise neutral decor with a bold splash of colour, or put that abstract painting on the staircase as a surprise in a traditional home. Make a statement. Use color, shape and line and have the art contrast with what is in the room. If your room is traditional in style, try a traditional painting in a non-traditional palette. Support emerging artists. Decorate with original work. This is your chance to try something new. Nothing is more exciting than having something original in your home that is just for you. Work by emerging artists often presents a great value. in2art Gallery curates a comprehensive collection of art by emerging and established artists. In downtown Oakville, we have a different vision for the arts. Come in and visit our constantly changing exhibits and discover the work of art that belongs in your home.
