Oakville was blanked 1-0 by the defending Ontario Junior Hockey League champs, but bounced back two days later to down the Aurora Tigers 5-4. Blades salvage split of opening weekend The Oakville Blades opened their 2009-10 Ontario Junior Hockey League season last weekend by splitting two games in the annual Governor's Showcase, held at Joshua's Creek Arenas. Oakville lost its opening game 1-0 to the Kingston Voyageurs in a rematch of last year's league championship series, also won by Kingston. The Blades then edged the Aurora Tigers 5-4 Sunday. Mark Bennett paced the Blades Sunday with a pair of power-play goals. Dustin Alcock and Mark McGowan also tallied for Oakville, with Mike Ingoldsby picking up two assists. Thomas Savelli, pressed into service midway through Friday's game after starting goalie Mike Morissette tweaked his groin, recorded the victory in net Sunday. The Blades visit the Mississauga Chargers tonight (Wednesday) and are home to the Milton IceHawks Friday, a 7:30 p.m. start at Joshua's Creek Arenas. Get on the path to health. 2009-2010 WINTER BASKETBALL LEAGUE The Oakville Basketball Club is the premier basketball club in our community. With approximately one thousand athletes in our house league programs and over 200 rep level athletes. We have proudly worked with Basketball Ontario and Canada Basketball to implement the Steve Nash program in our Winter House League over the last two years. This season we will apply even further focus on the development of our young athletes as they progress in our house leagues by adding a complimentary development camp with our rep level coaches. The Winter Basketball League is for boys and girls ages 8 to 17 who want to learn basketball skills in a fun environment with friends. Come out and join us for on court fun and excitement while learning the FUNdamentals of passing, shooting and ball handling with our experienced coaches. Games will be played on Sundays with one 1 hour practice during the week. League is open to anyone who wants to learn the game and have FUN.
