OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, September 25, 2009 · 10 Family fun at Fire Prevention Week Kickoff Saturday The Oakville Fire Department is calling on all residents to attend the 10th annual Fire Prevention Week Kickoff, on Saturday, and learn from the event's theme of Stay Fire Smart, Don't Get Burned. The event is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Oakville Fire Training/Prevention Campus, located at 1144 South Service Rd., W., and will feature fire safety presentations, residential sprinkler demonstrations, the junior firefighter challenge, rescue demonstrations, fire truck rides and much more. Fire prevention week runs from Oct. 410, with this year's theme encouraging families to talk about and practice fire safety, especially the simple measures that can prevent serious burn injuries. Other fun activities that will take place at the kickoff event include inflatable air rides, a climbing wall, smoke room simulator and fire safety games. The Oakville Public Library has invited special guest Mary Lambert to perform at centre stage and a free lunch will be provided at the event courtesy of McDonald's Restaurant of Oakville. Each person should bring a personal water bottle that can be refilled. Participating community groups for this year's event include the Halton Regional Police Services, Oakville Transit, GO Transit, Oakville's Recreation and Culture Department, Halton Region Children's Services, Oakville Hydro, Seniors Helpline and the Halton Region Health Department. Parking this year is provided at the Bronte GO Station with a free shuttle bus ride to the event. Persons who have mobility needs can park at the Oakville Fire Training/Prevention Campus itself.
