Flynn reads petitions against power plant in legislature Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn joined those fighting against a proposed gas-fired power plant for the Oakville-Clarkson Airshed, Wednesday, by reading petitions collected from Oakville residents in the Legislative Assembly. The move comes just over a week after Flynn ceased to be the parliamentary assistant to the Minister of the Environment, an action that allows him to speak on the power plant issue without a conflict of interest. "I wanted to read into the public record that I oppose the proposal to build a plant in our town," said Flynn. "I wholeheartedly agree with the petition and I am pleased that I could publicly voice my opposition." Town Council was also pleased by Flynn's newfound freedom. "Council and I appreciate MMP Flynn's strong role in giving voice to our deeply held concerns about the negative impacts of power plants," said Mayor Rob Burton. Community groups in Oakville have been collecting signatures from residents and Flynn said he will continue to work with these community organizations, Burton and Town Council to oppose the power plant from being built in the community. 13 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, September 25, 2009 The Regional Municipality of Halton www.halton.ca Man mugged for iPOD Halton police are searching for two men after an 18-year-old Oakville man was mugged and assaulted in the Wynten Way area early Thursday morning.
