OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, September 30, 2009 · 12 Sale period: October 1-7 Volunteers will make food drive a success Volunteers, volunteers and more volunteers are needed to help make the annual Salvation Army Food Drive, to be held on Oct. 17, a success. This is the only food drive the Salvation Army Community Church of Oakville conducts over the entire year -- and it is this drive that the local Salvation Army hopes will stock its food bank shelves for the entire year. Volunteers are needed first to distribute door hangers between Oct. 2-15. More volunteers are then needed to return to the homes and collect food on the food drive day, Oct. 17. Finally, volunteers are needed to sort food from Oct. 19-30. Residents are also reminded that as they dig into the cupboards for nonperishable food items to donate, to check the expiry date, as health regulations deem anything past its due date must be disposed of, not given to those in need.
