Souper Bowl III will see local chefs serving their soup in bowls crafted by local potters, students and arts groups. Empty Bowls originated in 1990 in a Michigan high school art class and now events are held worldwide. Pottery and ceramic bowls are created by local potters, students and volunteers and purchased by guests. The money goes to local charity. As a thank you to those who purchase bowls, and a reminder to the community of the people in their midst who are in need, fresh-cooked soup and bread is served. Home Suite Hope provides practical solutions with housing and facilitated support," said Cari MacLean, Empty Bowls Steering Committee chair. "Community support for one's friends and neighbours in a time of need can alter a person's life dramatically, and our community has huge capacity to help," said Wendy Perkins, Home Suite Hope executive director. "The Empty Bowls event provides awareness that we do have people trying to live and function in our town, who do not have a place to call home," MacLean said. Along with the bowls made by school children, participating schools can access a lesson plan on homelessness and students can colour placemats.
