13 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, October 23, 2009 Kids can win big this year with the Santa parade T he Oakville Santa Claus Parade is pleased to launch its annual colouring contest, created again this year by award-winning cartoonist Steve Nease, well-known for his entertaining Pud cartoons. Children between five and 10 years will have the chance to win the seat beside Mrs. Claus, and ride at the start of this year's Parade along side the Parade Grand Marshall. Children ages three and four will have the chance to win a special prize just for their age group. Lauren Montanari, last year's winner, rode in a Cinderella carriage with Mrs. Claus. In spite of the rain, Lauren had an amazing time saying, "Mrs. Claus is really nice and being in the parade with her was so much fun." Lauren's advice to other children is to take extra special care when colouring and add their own personal touch to the picture so that they too can have the chance to ride with Mrs. Claus in the Santa Claus Parade. The colouring contest is now available online and will appear in the Kids Section of the Oakville Beaver on Oct. 29 and Nov. 5. Children can get creative and into the Christmas spirit by colouring a picture celebrating A Rock And Roll Christmas, this year's Parade theme. Kids, hurry and get your markers and crayons out because the colouring contest runs only until Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. For contest rules and to download your entry form, check out the Santa website at www.oakvillesantaclausparade.ca. Make sure to drop by Kerr Street on Saturday, Oct. 24 from noon until 6 p.m. when the Oakville Santa Claus Parade booth will have lots of giveaways, free face painting and more at the Kerr Village Halloween Happenings. As part of the afternoon's activities, children can take part in a Scavenger Hunt to take place in Kerr Village. Kids will get the chance to win a ride in the window of Santa's float, a ride on the Kerr Village BIA float or to light the Christmas tree at the Kerr Village annual tree lighting. The Kerr Village BIA is excited about once again partnering with the Santa Claus Parade this year. "The Kerr Village BIA has been a strong supporter of the Parade since day one --we are a Silver Sponsor as well as float participant in the Parade each year," said John Marlatt, special events chair for the Kerr Village BIA. "It is only natural for us to once again partner with the Parade to offer children these once-in-a-lifetime memories," said Marlatt. For more information on this event and to print your scavenger hunt card, visit www.kerrvillage.ca or www.oakvillesantaclausparade.ca. Now in its 61st year, the Oakville Santa Claus Parade is a cherished tradition in the Town of Oakville. The 2009 parade will take place Saturday, Nov. 15, begin- ning at 9 a.m. The parade will begin at Lakeshore Road and Reynolds, and follow a route that goes west on Lakeshore to Kerr Street, north on Kerr and end at Kerr and Stewart streets.
