7 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, October 30, 2009 Surplus WOSS lands may be sold By Tina Depko OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF The Halton District School Board will be deciding if it will dispose of surplus portions of land at White Oaks Secondary School (WOSS) at its meeting on Nov. 4. There are two portions of land deemed as surplus around the north campus, including 7.3 acres north of the site, and a 2.71 acre section east of the site. Sports fields occupy most of the larger piece of land. The smaller section features a tree line that separates the school from townhouses. The school board will be voting on whether to sell this land, along with 14 acres at the former General Brock High School site in Burlington and 2.56 acres at McKenzie Smith Bennett in Acton. Board staff estimates the sale of these properties would bring in approximately $17 million, which would in turn, help fund a portion of several capital projects the school board is currently undertaking, including new high schools in Oakville, Milton and Burlington, and renovations to Georgetown District High School. A delegation night on the issue of selling these surplus sites was held Wednesday. There were six delegations, but none spoke about the potential sale of the White Oaks land. Oakville delegates are expected to speak about the White Oaks property at the Nov. 4 meeting, which starts at 7 p.m. For information, visit www.hdsb.ca. BOO!
