In advance of the upcoming Copenhagen Conference on the Climate Crisis, find out more about the topic at the event to be held from 7-9 p.m. at Oakville Town Hall, Atrium, 1225 Trafalgar Rd. The evening will begin with a panel discussion and will be followed by a facilitated public forum. Everyone is welcome to this free event that is being organized by Hilliary BuchanTerrell, selected as a delegate by the Young Liberals as a delegate to the Copenhagen Conference with the International Federation of Liberal Youth. The event is sponsored by Oakvillegreen Organizer is delegate at Copenhagen Conference Conservation Association. The panel discussion will feature numerous personalities. One is Stephen Williamson, a former oil industry businessman who, since retirement, has received an Honours BA in the Conflict Studies Program and a Masters in International Relations from the University of Toronto. Since 2007, Williamson has volunteered with several NGOs especially The Climate Project Canada, headed by Al Gore. Also on the panel will be Dr. Blake Poland, an associate professor in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, co-director of the Environmental Health Justice Research Network of the Centre for Urban Health Initiatives and a former director the Collaborative Program in Community Development (2007-2008). Poland is also co-principal organizer of Transition Oakville, lead organizer of Halton Green Screens eco-film series, and an Oakvillegreen board member. Increasingly, his current research and teaching focuses on building community resilience for the transition to a post-carbon society. Also on the panel will be Cindy Toth, director of Environmental Policy at the Town of Oakville, who will discuss what action the Town is taking to reduce its carbon footprint and lower greenhouse gas emissions. Rounding out the panel will be Liz Benneian, former newspaper editor and current president of Oakvillegreen who will speak on how citizens can become effective advocates for action on the climate crisis.
