www.oakvillebeaver.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, November 27, 2009 · 26 UWO campaign a way to give to those in need I t's often at this time of year when people think about giving to those less fortunate than themselves. In a few short weeks, United Way of Oakville's (UWO) 2009 campaign will draw to a close, and thousands of donors will rest a little easier knowing they gave to those in need this holiday season. To those donors, we would like to say thank you for helping us build a stronger and healthier community. When all is said and done, each of you will have helped United Way of Oakville and its agencies assist thousands of people in town who need a safe haven, a compassionate ear or just a helping hand -- and thankfully they can find it at a United Way agency. For those of you who haven't given, but are still considering it, perhaps you're wondering `How does helping individuals translate to building a stronger and healthier community?' People make our community what it is. They raise children, run businesses, take part in social and recreational programs, purchase products and services, work and volunteer. They also support their friends and family, befriend others and lend a hand to their neighbours -- all things vital to a strong and healthy community. But when someone is faced with one of life's challenges, these things are affected, and subsequently, so is the health of our community. Imagine the impact these situations would have: the owner of a thriving local business is diagnosed with Alzheimer' Disease; a 10year-old boy loses his father, a man with a serious addiction loses everything, but desperately wants to turn his life around. All of these people can go on to be valued and contributing members of our BUY LOCALLY SERVICE LOCALLY SUPPORT YOUR COMMUNITY Phone: (905) 825-8088 www.volvoofoakville.com community -- they've just come to a time in their life when they need a little help. So let's make sure the help is there for them. When we invest in the health and wellbeing of our citizens, we invest in our community. This year, United Way of Oakville's campaign goal is $3,603,731. We need your help to reach it.
