The Bronte Village Residents' Association (BVRA) is hosting an information night on Thursday, Dec. 10, at which time the association will ask representatives from the Bronte Village Mall a series of questions about the development. The Town of Oakville has received an application for the redevelopment of the Bronte Village Mall site, which proposes the establishment of a twostorey podium block combined with a 21-storey building, a four-storey podium block combined with two eight-storey buildings, a four-storey podium block combined with two 10storey buildings, 451 residential condominium units, commercial and retail space and a market square and pedestrian mews. All this would be served by 540 underground parking spaces and 72 ground level parking spaces. The BVRA views this application as the largest single development for Bronte in recent memory and while information sessions have been conducted by the applicant and the Town there are specific questions the BVRA, on behalf of the residents, wishes to pose directly to the applicant. The objective of the open forum is to allow the public to hear the applicant's responses to these questions and then make up their own minds about how they feel about the application. The forum is also designed to allow for questions from the public. "We are very excited about having the applicant respond directly to issues and concerns that the community has about the redevelopment so everyone has an opportunity to form their own informed opinions on the application," said Laurie McGinn, Vice-President of the BVRA. "We asked the applicant to respond to specific questions publicly and they have agreed. The questions relate to such issues as anticipated traffic the development will create, whether or not building height and massing is in character with the community, what benefits will the community derive from this proposal, particularly the elderly, and how the application design will contribute to the village character." The information meeting will take place at the Walton Memorial Church, 2489 Lakeshore Rd., W., and last from 7-9 p.m. Admission to the information meeting is free, however, in support of the holiday season residents are encouraged to contribute to the Walton Memorial United Church food drive.
