James was the lone Oakville school to reach the finals at the Halton District School Board's elementary volleyball Division 1 championships last Wednesday in Milton. The Hawks defeated Burlington's C.H. Norton 25-17 to make it to the girls' final, where they fell 25-11, 25-18 to Georgetown's Stewarttown Stingers. Stewarttown finished the season with an undefeated record in league play and with several tournament championships. E.J. James, the East champion, was perfect in girls' pool play to make it to the playoff round. Central champ Heritage Glen, Central finalist Alexander's and East finalist Abbey Lane were eliminated in the round robin. In the boys' final, Milton's Chris Hadfield defeated defending Halton champion Georgetown Centennial 25-20, 15-25, 15-11. East champion E.J. James gave Hadfield a tough test in the semifinal, dropping a 28-26 decision to suffer its first loss of the year. Central finalist Captain R. Wilson fell 25-12 to Centennial in the other semi, while Pine Grove (Central champions) and River Oaks (East finalists) were eliminated in the round robin. Northern schools also reigned supreme in the Division 2 championships, capturing the boys' and girls' titles Tuesday in Milton. Chris Hadfield defeated Burlington's Aldershot 25-23, 25-20 to take the girls' crown, while W.I. Dick downed Forest Trail 25-7, 2520 in the boys' final. River Oaks reached the girls' semifinal before losing to Aldershot. STA, King's eliminated early at OFSAA hoops The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders and King's Christian Collegiate Cavaliers both struggled at their respective Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) girls' basketball tournaments last weekend. Aquinas lost all three of its games at the AA tournament in Belleville, while the Cavaliers went 1-3 at the A competition in Cornwall. The Raiders' losses came 58-30 to Orillia's Patrick Fogarty Flames, 70-33 to Sault Ste. Marie's St. Basil Saints, and 46-36 to Thunder Bay's Hammarskjold Vikings. Melanie Enright was Aquinas' top scorer against the Flames and Saints, while Mann led the Raiders in points against the Vikings. Guelph's Bishop MacDonnell Celtics won the AA gold. King's fell 36-18 to Cornwall's Holy Trinity Falcons and 40-17 to Sudbury's Sacre Coeur Griffons, then downed the Kapuskasing Colts 33-28. The Cavaliers were eliminated with a 47-22 loss to Barrie's Nouvelle-Alliance Tornades. Aderin Odetunde led King's in scoring during the tournament. Welland's E.S. Confederation Jaguars took gold at the A competition.
