Peewee AA Rangers delivering on and off the ice The Oakville peewee AA Rangers have been very successful on the ice so far this hockey season, but they've also made quite an impact off of it. The defending Ontario Minor Hockey Association champions recently conducted their annual food drive, collecting dozens of bags of donations for the Oakville Fareshare Food Bank. The Oakville Fareshare Food Bank, located at 1240 Speers Rd., services more than 375 less-fortunate families in the Oakville area. As Christmas approaches, the food bank stocks up in efforts to meet the demands of the holiday season. The Rangers currently hold a perfect 18-0 record in league play. OMBA junior umpire receives award Oakville's Gourville Bezuidenhout was recently named the Ontario Baseball Association's (OBA) junior umpire of the year. Baseball Ontario supervisor of umpires Ed Quinlan presented Bezuidenhout with the Dick Willis Memorial Award at the OBA's annual general meeting last month in Toronto. A fixture of the Oakville Minor Baseball Association (OMBA) umpire crew, Bezuidenhout was the youngest member of the crew that worked the 16th annual Cannon Cup Midget All-Star Tournament in September. Bezuidenhout, a 16-year-old T.A. Blakelock student who has umpired with the OMBA since 2004, is known for his genuine desire to improve, his pleasant but firm on-field demeanour, and his ability to handle all situations with ease and confidence.
