www.oakvillebeaver.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, December 11, 2009 · 18 Giving back is a gift U nited Way of Oakville (UWO) will extend its fundraising campaign until January to ensure we raise 100 per cent of our goal. It was a difficult year for all United Ways, but we have seen a lot of hard work and dedication from the Oakville community. Currently we have raised 95 per cent of our goal. We are so close; we know we can make it together. Extending our campaign was an extremely easy decision for us to make. Our achievement and efforts work to support 31 human and social service programs in the Oakville community. We cannot and will not fail them. A gap in the fundraising campaign has many serious complications for the community. There are increased waiting times for counselling services, trauma assessment, crisis intervention and support for seniors at home. There is potentially reduced funding for essential services. With even more people relying on services from our agencies this year, we will not give up. We need your help now to ensure people in need have the support they require. We are so close; we only need a little more help. Every donation impacts the people in our community. For example: · A $20 donation can provide a youth who has experienced violence in a relationship access free skill building and self-care workshops through SAVIS (Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Services). · A $150 donation can help a parent for a year with a parent education program through Oakville Parent-Child Centre. · A $200 donation can provide a child with learning difficulties with an intervention program to increase the child's ability to be successful in school. This Christmas season, please consider making a donation to United Way of Oakville. -- Submitted by United Way of Oakville
