"I can't wait to be able to help out on the next project. To be able to share some love with another family is exactly what I would love to do come August," said Naomi. "I can't thank Sera, and the Walls of Hope team, enough for introducing us to all these wonderful people, who have so much love in their hearts to share. For a home that is bright, comfortable and for giving me a break from all the repairs, we love them all," Naomi said. Naomi is a personal support worker for the Community Care Access Centre (CCAC) and Bonnie Humfrey, her client, nominated Naomi for Walls of Hope after reading about the charity in The Oakville Beaver. A condition of Walls of Hope's intervention is that a family must be helping itself, said Mansueto who noted the Borges family was screened before being approved and approached about the project. While Naomi provided a wish list of work to be done, Mansueto said it was typical of Naomi in that it represented very little. So the Walls of Hope team also made some judgment calls about what needed to be done. KAREN NEWMAN / OAKVILLE BEAVER WALLS OF HOPE: This clock hangs in the newly-renovated home of Naomi Borges who has an affinity for expressing inspiration in her home. "It takes a lot of hearts to change a family's life. Making a difference in another family's life just before the holidays... what a wonderful time to receive and also to give, said Mansueto. This was the ninth home Walls of Hope has renovated since Mansueto founded the charity in 2005. Mansueto said some people work diligently, but never get both feet on the ground. Just when they do get a foot ahead, something tugs them back. "We'd like to be part of helping Naomi get both feet out so she can start moving on her own. It's a hand up, not a hand out," said Mansueto. Volunteers and donations are welcome, for information contact Mansueto at sera.sunrise@sympatico.ca or visit wallsofhopecanada.org.
