34 Artscene The sculpture consists of two concrete pieces, each being 8 feet long and 7 feet in diameter and each piece weighing in at 6.5 tonnes, with the total weight being more than 13 tonnes. James and Glazar joked that the immense crane needed on installation day came in handy. "In this work we are fascinated with the way colour and a sense of play can lead us to places of wonder," said Glazar. "We actually encourage visitors to enter the work and experience it from the inside looking out." Glazar and James have had numerous exhibitions and are commissioned throughout Canada and internationally. James holds a bachelor of fine arts from the Ontario College of Art and Design and a master of fine arts from Istituto Marangoni, one of Europe's leading fashion and design schools. Prior to completing Eye See You, the Canadian duo travelled to Los Angeles, in preparation for an exhibition due in late 2010 and also attended the Frieze art Fair in London, Paris and Berlin. They are currently bringing to life their current nine month project -- their first baby. · FRIDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2009 Artists making waves in Australia Collaborative artists, and husband and wife team, Barbara Glazar and Ryan James were thrilled their sculpture, Eye See You, was chosen to be included in the 13th annual Sculpture by the Sea in Sydney, Australia. Sculpture by the Sea is the world's largest annual free-to-the-public outdoor sculpture exhibition that transforms a two-kilometre costal walk area on Bondi Beach. The event features works from around the world. Glazer and James are the only Canadian artists to be awarded a commission in the 2009 exhibition. "We are thrilled and honoured to be part of the exhibition that takes place in such a beautiful place on the coast in Sydney," said James, a lifelong Oakville resident and graduate of Fern Hill School. "Barbara and I have enjoyed watching members of the public enjoying and interacting with the artwork. By 11 a.m. on the first day, young children were pouncing, running, screaming and scampering inside and across the artwork. It is extremely exciting to exhibit a work that invites the public to interact with art." It is expected that more than 600,000 will come and view the sculptures as they wander along the coastal track from Bondi to Tamarama in Sydney, Australia.
