By taking the time to have your child fingerprinted KIA Gilgan gives $400,000 to Oakville YMCA A $400,000 donation was made Wednesday to the YMCA of Oakville by the Peter Gilgan Charitable Foundation. The donation is split between the YMCA's annual Strong Kids campaign ($36,000), which provides financial assistance to ensure all children and families have access to YMCA programs, and the remainder ($364,000) is designated for the capital fund, which covers building and equipment costs at The Peter Gilgan Family YMCA, 410 Peter Gilgan Rebecca St. "This is a very generous gift and we are honoured that Peter Gilgan raised these funds on our behalf," said Kristian Knibutat, chair of the YMCA of Oakville board of directors. "Peter has demonstrated his commitment to helping the YMCA build strong kids, strong families and strong communities. We also thank everyone who contributed to his foundation." Peter Gilgan, president and CEO of Mattamy Homes, presented the cheque to the YMCA board of directors Wednesday after seeing a demonstration from a children's taekwondo class. Class participants showed him how to break boards using hands and feet. "I give to the YMCA because I want to remove barriers to participation," he said.
