11 · Wednesday, December 16, 2009 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com Time to take a cool dip with the polar bears at Coronation Park There are any number of reasons why they dip. But dip they do and the zany polar bear dippers are why Rwandans will get clean water. Having visited Rwanda last summer -- just before the Courage Brothers' Annual Polar Bear Dip marks its 25th anniversary Jan. 1, 2010 -- dip founders Todd and Trent Courage of Oakville will remember the yellow jugs they saw touted by long lines of people, usually kids, in a bid to get clean water in that country. So, with their dip having raised more than $420,000 to date, the Courage brothers will head into the 2010 event with the goal of raising the other half of the cash to deliver a twopart clean water promise to Rwanda. The Courages saw the first half of the project accomplished when they visited. If you haven't heard of it, the Courage Brothers Annual Polar Bear Dip is the largest such event in Canada. It sees nearly 500 people jump into Lake Ontario's icy-cold water to raise money in support of fresh water projects in developing countries around the world. The Courage Brothers' Polar Bear Dip for World Vision aims to raise more than $60,000.00 on Jan. 1, and to make this possible, the Courages are hoping more people will get involved and make donations.
