Cycling club hands out awards GOLDEN IN NORTH SIMCOE: The Oakville atom B Hornets won the championship at the North Simcoe Fall Classic Tournament recently. The team is dominating its league as well, winning 13 of its first 14 games in the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League. The Oakville Cycling Club recently handed out end-of-season awards at its Annual General Meeting. Award winners included Chris Blacklock (top rider and mountain bike champion), Ian Chambers (time trial champion), Evan Blacklock (outstanding youth rider), Mark Stuart (sportsmanship), Stephen Barnes (most improved rider), David Harris (Stan Adams Trophy for community involvement) and Robert Narejko (Award of Gratitude). Eleanor McMahon, founder of the Share the Road Foundation, was the event's guest speaker. Share the Road advocates safe and accessible cycling for all Ontario citizens. The Oakville Cycling Club promotes cycling as a healthy and enjoyable activity. The club has nearly 100 members from Oakville, Mississauga, Milton, Burlington, Waterdown and Ancaster. Oakville clinched the gold with a 5-2 win over North Halton in the final, avenging a 2-1 loss in its opening game. The Hornets also defeated Orangeville 8-0 and North Simcoe 4-1 at the competition. The tournament success was nothing new for Oakville, which owns a 13-1 record in Lower Lakes Female Hockey League play. The Hornets have outscored their opposition 38-9 so far this season. Members of the team, many of whom are in their first year of rep hockey, are Daniella Serrao, Sydney Morrison, Victoria Gironda, Emma Coulter, Taylor Kemp, Heather Sdao, Courtney Wilson, Sarah Bigham, Alex Worth, Nicole Cherepacha, Sierra Johnson, Madison Seaver, Emma Schurman, Alex Sacha, Sydney Pastorek and Nicole Parsons. Kevin Kemp, Neil Morrison and Kim Tyler coach the team. Renee Serrao and Vicki Sacha are the trainers.
