15 · Friday, December 18, 2009 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com Denny's First Anniversary Celebrations a Grand Slam for OTMH On Tuesday, October 20, Denny's in Oakville (125 Cross Ave) celebrated their 1st anniversary by offering their customers a "Free Original Grand Slam Breakfast" in return for a donation towards the purchase of vital medical equipment at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH). The day was such a success that Denny's generously extended their fundraising program through a month long fundraising event in which $1 from every "Original Grand Slam Breakfast" sold was donated to OTMH. These two events raised $1,500 to purchase essential medical equipment for OTMH, including the Maternal Child and Paediatric units. The Oakville Hospital Foundation would like to thank Dan, Prapa, Renata and the Denny's team for their time, effort and generosity in supporting our community hospital. We would also like to thank the hundreds of customers who participated in Denny's fundraising efforts. Rude Native Supports OTMH Craig Nazareth, head chef at the Rude Native restaurant in Oakville, featured two of his most favored entrees for lunch in the OakvilleTrafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) cafeteria on Wednesday, October 14 - with a portion of the proceeds donated toward the purchase of essential medical equipment for OTMH. The Rude Native entrees (only $7 each) included a choice of an oven roasted chicken breast or salmon fillet, finished with a mouth-watering orange-teriyaki glaze, served with rice pilaf and seasonal vegetables. The Rude Native's support of OTMH continues for the months of January, February and March 2010. During these months, for every customer who brings their own bottle of wine in to enjoy at the restaurant, the Rude Native will waive the corkage fee and donate $1 to OTMH to help fund the purchases of essential medical equipment. We would like to thank Craig and the staff at Rude Native for their support of our community hospital. Visiting Patients Caption: (l-r) Cindy McDonald, Program Leader, OTMH Maternal Child, Prapa Mahadevan, General Manager and Co-Owner and Renata Marchione, Restaurant Manager & Sales Representative. Patient care is our primary concern at Halton Healthcare Services. Specific visiting hours have been established for each patient care unit. Please check ahead for visiting hours or check our web site, www.haltonhealthcare.com. The holiday season is also the flu season. Please don't visit patients in the hospital if you are feeling ill. Halton Healthcare Services is happy to offer a complimentary patient email service for those that cannot come in for a personal visit. Log onto www.haltonhealthcare.com. Under Quick Links you will find the link to email a patient. A volunteer will print your message on special paper, seal it and arrange for delivery. And finally, washing your hands is one of the best defences against disease. We encourage everyone to wash their hands, upon their arrival and departure, at the convenient hand washing stations located throughout the hospital. Michael's Back Door Restaurant Golf Tourney The 25th annual Michael's Back Door Restaurant Golf Tournament took place on Monday, September 14. The golf tournament started at Lionhead Golf and Country Club and concluded at the restaurant where Chef Stephan Waespi went above and beyond all expectations by serving a sublime steak and lobster dinner. More than $5,900 was raised with proceeds going towards the purchase of essential equipment at OTMH. On behalf of the OTMH physicians and staff, we would like to thank the community and the sponsors for their support of our hospital through this golf tournament. Special thanks to Michael Morra Sr., Stephan Waespi, Michael Morra Jr., Mario Della-Savia, and the staff at Michael's Back Door Restaurant for their time, energy and support of OTMH through their 25th annual golf tournament. Be Prepared for the Holidays! You can often avoid problems by simply being prepared. Here is a checklist to consider: · Call your doctor's office and your local pharmacy to find out what their hours will be over the holidays. · Get a flu shot: Your family doctor can offer this service or refer you to the nearest clinic. · Prescriptions, medication and medical equipment: Make sure that everyone in your family has enough of their medications, both prescription and non-prescription, to last over the holiday season. Don't forget needles, alcohol swabs, etc. Also check inhalers, respirators, oxygen, and glucose testing machines. · Batteries: Have extra batteries on hand for equipment such as electric wheelchairs. · Medical checkup: If you're due for a checkup or tests, try to schedule them before the holidays. · Update all emergency phone numbers and post them in a visible place (e.g. your fridge). · Remind visiting family members and friends to bring their health card and health insurance information.
