The accident occurred on Sunday at approximately 8 p.m. on Dundas Street East, east of Meadowridge Drive. A 2004 Lexus SUV driven by a pregnant 31-year-old female whose two children, aged four and two, were passengers, was westbound on Dundas Street when an eastbound 1997 Honda Civic with a 17-year-old Oakville male behind the wheel crossed sideways into their lane, said Det. Const. Chris Heffernan with the Halton Police's collision reconstruction unit. Police, ambulances and the fire department, including two pumper trucks, a rescue vehicle and command DAVID RITCHIE / SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER CLOSE CALL: Miraculously no one was killed in this two-car crash, which sent the occupants of a Lexus, left, -- a pregnant mother and her two children -- to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and a 17-year-old, who was driving a Honda Civic, right, to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening, injuries. unit vehicle, responded to the crash. Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free the 17-year-old from his mangled car, which was ripped in half. He was airlifted to an out-of-region hospital with serious, but non-lifethreatening injuries. Firefighters removed a door from the SUV to extricate the pregnant woman. Her children had already been taken out of the vehicle when the fire department arrived. The woman, who is believed to be in her mid-term, and her children were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said the woman was a Burlington resident. Police report that both drivers were wearing their seatbelts, and that the children in the SUV were in proper child restraints. Andy Glynn, deputy chief of the Oakville Fire Department, said it is a miracle no one was critically injured. "Considering the magnitude of the accident, we were quite surprised there wasn't any fatalities and they were relatively uninjured," he said. "When we show up to those type of incidents and see vehicles in that type of condition, you think the worst right off the bat, so when we see there is no life-threatening injuries, we are relieved." A stretch of Dundas Street East was closed in both directions until 4 a.m. Police were continuing their investigation Monday morning. Heffernan said at this point, there is no indication alcohol was a factor in the crash. There is also no word on whether charges will be laid.
